The National Network against Homophobia and Transphobia announced the organization of the first Skopje Pride Parade at the streets of Skopje on the last Saturday in June.
With this announcement, Irena Cvetkovikj opened today’s press conference, pointing out the important role of media in the joint fight for just society in which human rights and freedoms of all citizens are respected, including of LGBTI people, as well.
Antonio Mihajlov emphasized the need for wider support and active participation of all factors: politicians, public personalities, activists, artists, at the Skopje Pride Parade, thus showing solidarity to the LGBTI people. The pride parade creates space that emancipates and liberates, and is open for everybody, regardless of their nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc.
This year we are observing 50 years since the first riots in New York City, known as the Stonewall Riots, which were the turning point in creating the LGBTI movement, i.e. the fight for respect of the fundamental human rights and opposing the persecution and stigmatization of LGBTI people – said Kocho Andonovski. North Macedonia is the last country in the Balkan region to organize a Pride parade.
In the following month, we will regularly inform the media and the audience on the details of the organization of the Pride Parade, the exact location, route and time.
