“Slava” at the Centre of Skopje

Today in the center of Skopje, starting at 15:00, there is going to be a public performance called “Kukjna slava”. The performance is a concluding action from the seminar “COUNTERPUBLICS – queer activism, nationalism and public space”, held in September 2012 in Skopje and was organized by the Coalition “Sexual and health rights of the marginalized communities”, in cooperation with Queer Zagreb (Zagreb) and Centre for queer studies (Belgrade).

The focus on queer matters on this seminar produced an event discussing sensitive, provocative, controversial or at least, different topics. The performance takes and twists the concept of the “slava” celebration, or a Sunday lunch, which is deeply rooted in the family as a social institution, regardless of whether it is of traditional or contemporary type.
