President of Montenegro supported the upcoming Pride Rally in Podgorica

The President of Montenegro, FilipVujanovic, held a meeting today with representatives of LGBTIQ Association Queer Montenegro, led by Danijel Kalezic, President of the Governing Board of the Association that is the organizer of the first Pride rally, which will take place in Podgorica, on 20 October.

Mr.Kalezic informed the President about the current activities of the Association, with emphasis on the concept of organization of the announced Pride rally. Special importance was given to the safety aspect and support of representative of the Government of Montenegro to the organization of the Pride rally, in order to protect the human rights of LGBTIQ population.

President Vujanovic stated that respect for the right to be different, as well as the prevention of any form of discrimination, is the essence of a tolerant society that we have to promote together, especially among the younger generations. In anticipation of a tolerant attitude towards the upcoming Pride rally in Podgorica, the President stated that he is confident that the competent state bodies will make every effort to ensure the right to peaceful expression of these differences.

We note that the Pride rally, organized by Queer Montenegro in Podgorica on 20 October, is supported, along with the President of Montenegro, by a large number of local and regional non-governmental organizations, political parties, the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights, Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, and the Ombudsman Institution.
